Maximum heart rate

Where GSTS gets your maximum heart rate, and how to change it.

Your maximum heart rate sets your heart-rate zones, so it shapes your training load and form (see Training load and form).

The value GSTS uses

By default, GSTS takes the highest heart rate recorded in your health app over the last 365 days, rounded to a whole number. It doesn't guess from your age. If your phone has no heart-rate data at all, GSTS asks you once.

Changing it

Open Settings → Max heart rate and type your own value, for example one measured in a test with a coach. Your zones, load and form are recalculated with the new value.

When to change it

If a short, very hard effort recorded a value that's too high (a watch glitch), or your maximum hasn't been reached in the last year, your zones may look off. Set the value you know.
